Gruff but friendly, this is a well-managed, fast-paced brasserie right in the heart of Marigot, with sidewalk tables. The food is good and reasonably priced and draws local French-speaking residents. This building was originally a bank, and it still has a marble-and-brass decor, and a retro 1950s-style with green leather banquettes. Menu items include a succulent garlicky fish soup, frogs' legs in garlic sauce, snails in garlic butter sauce, breast of duckling in orange sauce, Provençal-style shrimp, pot-au-feu, and fillet of beef with mushroom sauce -- all those dishes that the French enjoy at blue-collar bistros. Naturally, you can order interesting terrines, and wine is sold by the glass, carafe, or bottle. The kitchen also prepares a handful of Caribbean dishes, such as swordfish in garlic sauce. If it's on the menu, check out the tartar of shark, seasoned with onions, chives, and an ample dose of lime juice. There's also a U.S. inspired version of a "surf & turf."
Main courses 6€-28€.Open: Mon-Sat 7am-8pm.Credit Cards: MC, V.
