Luxurious and sybaritic, this world-class resort features Mediterranean-style architecture on a 1 1/2-mile stretch of one of St. Martin's finest beaches. The resort was acquired by Orient Express Hotels and made especially competitive with a massive infusion of cash and a major overhaul. Since then, the resort has earned a reputation as a sleek, sexy, and stylish complex where celebrities sometimes come to hide out and unwind. Although the place is pricey, it's not stuffy. It feels like it's been transplanted from the French Riviera.
Rows of mature royal palms enhance the 55-acre property's front entrance. As you enter, you're greeted by lavish art objects from Morocco and Thailand. Regardless of their size, most units have private terraces. Suites and villas have spacious bedrooms with luxurious beds, fully equipped kitchens, living and dining rooms, VCRs, and large patios. The bathrooms are simpler than might be expected, but they're well designed nonetheless, with bidets, hand-painted Mexican tiles, and shower-and-tub combos. The fourth floor is the site of one of the grandest suites in the Caribbean.
Guests enjoy superb French cuisine alfresco, on a candlelit terrace overlooking Baie Longue. After dinner, the bar becomes a disco. At the poolside grill, waiters serve food, St-Tropez style, on the beach.
