Cité de la Musique

This testimony to the power of music has been the most widely applauded, the least criticized, and the most innovative of the late François Mitterrand's grands projets. At the city's northeastern edge in what used to be a run-down and depressing neighborhood, this $120-million stone-and-glass structure incorporates a network of concert halls, a library and research center for the study of all kinds of music, and a museum. The complex hosts a rich variety of concerts, ranging from Renaissance music through 19th- and 20th-century works, including jazz and traditional music from nations around the world.

221 av. Jean-Jaurès.Phone: 01-44-84-45-00.Tickets 12€-30€ for 4:30 and 8pm concerts.Métro: Porte de Pantin.
