La Balajo

Opened in 1936, this dance club is best remembered as the venue where Edith Piaf first won the hearts of thousands of Parisians. Today it's easy to compare Le Balajo to New York City's Roseland -- an old-fashioned venue steeped in nostalgia that sometimes manages to shake the dust out for special parties and events to become hip and cutting-edge. Sessions held three afternoons a week focus on tangos, paso dobles, and waltzes, and are a lot more staid than their late-night counterparts. Then you get a younger crowd, lots of hot merengue and salsa (Tues-Thurs nights) and disco (Fri-Sat nights).
