Kyoto's only revolving restaurant is a good choice for a romantic dinner. Unlike most other revolving restaurants in Japan, which usually move so fast that one fears being flung against the windows by centrifugal force, this one, I'm happy to report, takes a leisurely 90 minutes to revolve, affording excellent views over the tops of Kyoto's temples to the mountains surrounding the city. With a smart Italian marble decor, it offers a seasonal menu that may include such delectables as lobster with sweetbreads and caviar, smoked Norwegian salmon with papaya, rack of lamb, and steaks. Adjoining the restaurant is a comfortable cocktail lounge, great for relaxing with a drink after dinner.
Set lunches ¥2,000-¥4,500; set dinners ¥5,000-¥12,000; weekend and holiday brunch buffet ¥3,500.
Open: Daily 11:30am-2pm and 5-11pm (brunch until 2:30pm weekends and holidays).
Reservations recommended.
Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.
Free shuttle bus every 15 min. 8am-9pm from Kyoto Station's Hachijo (south) exit; or a 7-min. walk west of Kyoto Station to the Horikawa-Shiokoji intersection.
