Manyoken is one of Kyoto's best-known restaurants, with more than 85 years of experience serving French cuisine. With its chandeliers, fresh roses, white tablecloths, and drawing-room atmosphere, this elegant restaurant serves a set lunch and set dinners. Although the menu changes monthly, a typical meal here may start out with escargots in bourguignonne sauce, followed by onion soup, sirloin steak cooked with a special house sauce, and then baked Alaska or soufflé in Curaçao or chocolate. À la carte selections include steak, lobster, fish, and chicken.

Main dishes ¥3,600-¥12,000; set dinners ¥8,000-¥20,000; set lunch ¥7,500. Open: Wed-Mon 11:30am-2:30pm and 5-8:30pm (last order). Reservations recommended. Credit Cards: AE, DC, JCB, MC, V. Bus: 5 to Shijo-Fuyacho. Just east of Fuyacho on Shijo Dori.
