It's difficult to classify this place, which calls itself a "Kyoto minibrewery," serving its own original beer and claiming to have more beers on tap than any other establishment in Kyoto. But it's certainly much more than just a brewery. Visually, it's the most interesting and exciting new-age restaurant I've seen in Kyoto, reminding me of high-tech places in Tokyo, with bare concrete walls, white pebbles on the floor, black furniture, an elevated dining platform above a running stream, and waitresses and cooks decked out in baggy Asian pants. The food is eclectic, although it's more Chinese than anything else. A specialty of the house is pao food, morsels wrapped in lettuce leaves; also available are deep-fried gyoza (dumplings), deep-fried crab, kushikatsu (skewered foods), salads, and rice dishes. All the food is seasonal and fresh.
Main dishes ¥400-¥1,000; set meals ¥2,000-¥3,000.
Open: Mon-Fri 11:30am-2pm and 5-10:15pm; Sat-Sun 11am-10:15pm (last order).
