CURRENCY CONVERTER
Charming and delightful, with a central courtyard and cubbyhole rooms, this tiny, 300-year-old noodle shop makes a great place for an inexpensive meal in the heart of traditional Kyoto. It offers plain buckwheat noodles, as well as noodles with such adornments as tempura and chicken and onions. Its specialty is a one-pot noodle dish called hokoro, which includes enough chicken, tofu, mushrooms, and vegetables for two. There's an English menu.

Noodles ¥600-¥1,500; Hokoro ¥3,800. Open: Fri-Wed 11am-8pm. Credit Cards: AE, V. Bus: 5 to Shijo-Fuyacho.
