Topanga Canyon has long been the home of leftover hippies and L.A.'s New Agers; it's a mountainous, sparsely populated area that's undeniably beautiful, even spiritual. This restaurant, a former church, oozes "aura." No one comes here for the food; they come for a romantic dining experience, far from the bright lights of the city. About half of the seating is outdoors, at tables overlooking a creek and endless tangles of untamed vines and shrubs. Inside, the dining room is rustic, with a sloped roof and a glass wall offering mountain views. Everything is prepared from scratch, and foods are organic and chemical- and preservative-free with a large vegan menu. The fish are caught in deep water far offshore and served the same day; you can even order unpasteurized wines that are quite good. Ten main dishes from the seasonally changing menu are available daily, and all are served with hors d'oeuvres, soup or salad, and vegetables. There are light dishes, like Five Secret Rays, consisting of lightly steamed vegetables served with lemon-tahini and caraway cheese sauces, but you'll also find a New York steak cut from naturally fed beef. Other dishes range from Vegan Duck with roasted chestnuts to grilled salmon served with French lentils and artichoke hearts. They also have a varied "raw food" menu.

Main courses $16-$25.Open: Mon-Fri 11:30am-3pm; Sat 10:30am-3pm; Sun 9:30am-3pm; daily 5:30-10pm.Reservations required.Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.Free parking.
