Authentic Café

(At Curson Ave)
tel.: 323/939-4626
Location: At Curson Ave
Cuisine: American Regional
Price Category: Moderate

True to its name, this restaurant serves authentic Southwestern food in a casual atmosphere. It's a winning combination that made this place an L.A. favorite, although popularity has dropped off recently due to the rush for the next big thing. But Authentic Café still has a loyal following of locals who appreciate generous portions and lively flavor combinations. You can sometimes find an Asian flair to chef Roger Hayot's dishes. Look for brie, papaya, and chili quesadillas; other worthwhile dishes are the chicken casserole with a corn-bread crust, fresh corn and red peppers in chili-cream sauce, and meat loaf with caramelized onions.

Main courses $9-$19.Open: Mon-Thurs 11am-10pm; Fri 11am-11pm; Sat 9:30am-11pm; Sun 9:30am-10pm.Reservations accepted only for parties of 8 or more.Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.Metered street parking or evening valet parking $3.50.
