Aptly named for its subtle global fusion fare, Mixx embodies everything good about Hillcrest dining: an attractive, relaxing room; a worldly crowd of regulars; thoughtfully composed dinners; and polished, friendly service. It's easy to see why locals gravitate to Mixx's wood-paneled, street-level cocktail lounge and the often jovial dining room above. Menu standouts include a starter of crispy Indonesian shrimp or the eggplant Sumatra (spiced eggplant and crispy tofu in chile sauce). The pan-roasted whitefish with a lemon-garlic confit served with roasted fennel and rosemary spiked potatoes, and the balsamic-basted flat iron steak are favored entrees. Prepared and presented with finesse by chef Zhee Zhee Charisma Aguirre--no, she's not a drag queen!--one meal here will quickly convince you that Mixx cares about substance and value.
