900 North Point St
(At Beach and Larkin sts)
tel.: 415/929-1730
Location: At Beach and Larkin sts
Cuisine: Seafood
Price Category: Inexpensive

On the upper level of this glamorous (and expensive) multitiered restaurant is a small seafood counter called the Crab Cake Lounge, which offers huge selections of shellfish, sandwiches, and light entrees at very reasonable prices. Start with the heaping pile of clams, mussels, crayfish, and Dungeness crab in a garlicky broth that's perfect for dipping into with the crusty French bread (easily a meal for two). Other menu items range from fresh oysters on the half shell to salmon sandwiches, blackened catfish, and an array of soups and salads. Just about everything served at the lounge is under $12, and you still get a slice of the million-dollar view of the bay.

Main courses $7-$14.Open: Mon-Sat 11:30am-11pm; Sun 10:30am-11pm.Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.Cable car: Powell-Hyde line. Bus: 19, or 30.
