American Police Hall of Fame and Museum

This strange museum appeals mostly to those fascinated by police and their gadgetry. Once inside, you'll find a combination of reality and fantasy that's part thoughtful tribute, part Hollywood-style drama. Just past the car featured in the motion picture Blade Runner is a mock prison cell, in which visitors can take pictures of themselves pretending they're doing 5 to 10. Also on hand are execution devices, including a guillotine and an electric chair (whose controversial use was recently abolished in Florida). In the entry is a touching memorial to the more than 7,000 American police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Even if you don't go inside, you can't miss the museum, which has a real police car attached to its facade. Unfortunately, at press time, it was announced that sometime in 2003, the museum would be moving out of Miami and up to Titusville, in central Florida. Call for more information and to see if the museum is still in Miami when you're there.
