NIGHTLIFE: GAY & LESBIAN BARS Frommer
Level

Overdone and some say overhyped, Level takes the notion of South Beach excess even further with its outlet-mall-sized, 40,000-square-foot space featuring four dance floors, three levels, five rooms, and nine bars. Like a video game, your status here is determined by which level you can land on. If you befriend one of the club's owners, you may end up at the top. Leveling out the competition, this club has cornered the market on parties and events, throwing one nearly every night. Because it is the largest club on the beach, the velvet rope scene can be quite harassing, but if you call in advance, the accommodating staff will usually put you on the guest list, which means you don't have to pay the cover, though you will still have to wait in line. Friday night is a very popular gay night, while the rest of the week attracts a mixed crowd of straights, gays, and somewhere-in-betweens. Celebs love Level because it has so many VIP rooms.

1235 Washington Ave.Phone: 305/532-1525.Cover $20-$30.
