NIGHTLIFE: GAY & LESBIAN BARS Frommer
1771

1771--For those seeking liberation from the cookie-cutter mold of run-of-the-mill, Saturday-night dance clubs, this place, formerly known as Salvation, is where you'll find it. Housed in an old warehouse, 1771 is spacious but always filled to capacity with shirtless, sweaty circuit boys dancing themselves into oblivion. Major DJs spin here, and, at times, divas sing here, such as Bette Midler, who did a rare and ribald cabaret performance to an SRO audience. You can't blame the owners for charging $20 to get in when you see this bevy of beautiful boys.

1771 West Ave.Phone: 305/673-6508.Open: Only open on Saturday nights.Cover $20.
