Manuel's Tavern

Not far from the yuppieness of Virginia-Highland and the funkiness of Little Five Points is an authentic neighborhood bar that's been a gathering spot for nearly 50 years. Owned by former DeKalb County chief executive officer Manuel Maloof, it's a regular watering hole for journalists, politicos, cops, students, and writers. Former President Jimmy Carter often drops by with the Secret Service in tow. The main bar, with its dark wood and large booths, is the best spot in the building, but there are two larger rooms with tables to accommodate the considerable crowds. It's lots of fun to watch the Braves here if you can't get tickets to the game. There's a full bar with 20 beers on tap, and 30 more bottled beers. Manuel's recently had a major menu expansion from the former bar food offerings to full home-cooking eats such as turkey and dressing, pork chops, and cordon bleu.
