The Alliance Theatre Company, under the direction of Kenny Leon, is the largest regional theater in the Southeast. On 2 stages, it produces about 10 plays a year (the season runs from Sept-June, with occasional productions during the summer). Many well-known actors have played these stages, among them Jane Alexander, Richard Dreyfuss, Esther Rolle, and Morgan Freeman. Recent seasons have included Dickens's A Christmas Carol (performed annually); Medea, starring Phylicia Rashad; and the world premiere of Elton John and Tim Rice's musical Aida. The Alliance Children's Theatre presents plays geared to youngsters from January to May. Tickets are $12.50 adults, $10 children.
