Fox Theatre

Built in 1927, when movie theaters were conceived along lavish lines, the Fox is a Moorish-Egyptian extravaganza complete with arabesque arches, onion domes, and minarets. Its exotic interior reflects the Egyptomania of the '20s--a phenomenon resulting from archaeologist Henry Carter's discovery of the treasure-laden tomb of King Tut. Throne chairs, scarab motifs, and hieroglyphics are seen throughout the theater, and the auditorium evokes a Middle Eastern courtyard under an azure sky. The Fox is home to the Atlanta Opera and the Atlanta Ballet . In addition, a wide spectrum of headliners plays the Fox, along with diverse entertainment ranging from Broadway musicals to rock 'n' roll.
