The first hotel at the entrance to Waikiki is this striking $150-million, twin33-story modern structure: high-tech with a view. The high-ceilinged lobby is a mass of pink Italian marble with English slate accents; a grand piano sits in the midst of the raised seating area, where high tea is served every afternoon; and a glass-encased elevator with views of Honolulu whisks you upward. Renovated in 1997, the comfortably appointed rooms are basically the same--they all face the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, have floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass windows, in-room safes, and hair dryers in the bathroom--but the higher the floor, the higher the price.
The service here is impeccable: No detail is ignored, no request is too small. The location is perfect for shopping--Ala Moana Center is just a 10-minute walk away, and Waikikis beaches are just a 5-minute walk away (both are also accessible via the hotel shuttle bus). In addition, the Prince has its own 27-hole golf club in Ewa Beach (with shuttle service to the greens, of course).
Dining/Diversions: The Prince Court, located on the third floor overlooking the harbor, offers casual bistro-like fare. Hakone Japanese Restaurant serves traditional cuisine prepared by master chefs, while casual Japanese dining is available at Takanawa Sushi Bar and Restaurant. The outdoor Promenade Deck is the place for cafe-style dining and tropical drinks.
Amenities: Nightly turndown service that includes a bedtime sweet and a small booklet of short stories, concierge desk, room service, complimentary newspaper, baby-sitting services, hot towels (oshibori) upon arrival, fitness room, full-service beauty shop. For an additional $40 a night, guests on the Hokulea Floor get such extras as a snack-filled welcome basket, a coffeemaker, tea service, a toothbrush and razor, logo bathrobes, and a CD player. A business floor can handle any business request, from computers to secretarial services.
