In 1997, the Doubletree chain (known for giving guests a freshly baked chocolate-chip cookie every night) took charge of this boutique hotel, a welcome oasis of beauty, comfort, and service. The elegant second-floor lobby and other public areas feature original Picasso ceramics, and the interior designer gave the rooms a more homey feel than what you usually find in other hotels. The result is comfortable rooms that are so inviting, you may want to curl up with a good book--if it werent for the fact that Waikiki Beach is just a walk away. Amenities include two-line telephones, voicemail, computer-fax outlets, and coffee/tea makers. The bathrooms are compact, but outfitted with everything you need, including a phone.
A good percentage of the guests are business travelers who expect top-drawer service, and the Alana Waikiki delivers. The staff is attentive to details and willing to go to any length to make you happy. Two restaurants offer superb Pacific-Rim cuisine, and full hotel amenities range from concierge and room service to a well-outfitted business center, a fitness center with sauna and massage (in-room massage service also available), a 24-hour reading room with international newspapers and magazines, and a heated pool.
