This is Waikikis biggest resort, so big it even has its own post office. Nearly 3,000 rooms spread over 20 acres of property that include tropical gardens dotted with exotic wildlife (flamingoes, peacocks, even tropical penguins!), award-winning restaurants, 100 different shops, a secluded lagoon, three swimming pools, two mini-golf courses, and a gorgeous stretch of Waikiki Beach.
Like everything else in the village--which really is a mini-city unto itself--theres a wide choice of accommodations housed in four towers (Rainbow, Tapa, Diamond Head, and Alii) that range from simply lovely to ultra-deluxe. All the rooms are large and beautifully furnished; if you can afford it, we highly recommend the ones in the Alii Tower. Located right on the ocean, the 348 amenity-laden rooms and suites offer all the royal treatment that the name implies, including in-room registration, an exclusive health club and swimming pool, and the full attention of a multilingual staff. Each room has a fully stocked refreshment center, in-room coffee services, no fewer than three phones (one of which is PC-compatible), and even a mini-TV on the bathroom vanity. But if you go with one of the more affordable towers, youll still be happy. Its a great place to stay with the kids.
Dining/Diversions: Both the Golden Dragon (excellent Cantonese and Szechwan cuisine in exquisite Asian-style surroundings) and the romantic Bali By the Sea, with ocean views and gourmet cuisine, are named among Honolulus best restaurants year after year. Other restaurants include a couple of casual cafes (one with a "fitness-first" menu), a steak-and-seafood joint, a sushi bar, and a branch of Benihana. Illusionist John Hirokawa and "The Magic of Polynesia" are featured at the Hilton Dome. There is also a handful of bars and lounges--including the beachfront Hau Tree Bar--many featuring nightly entertainment.
Amenities: Multilingual concierge; same-day laundry; in-room fax and computer hookups in many rooms; year-round children's program (one of Waikiki's best); free fitness classes, Hawaiiana instruction, and walking tours for adults; on-site Atlantis Submarine rides; in-room massage; room service. There are also a business center, a fitness center, three pools, and tons of shops.
