This small hotel is an island of integrity in a sea of tourist schlock. A self-proclaimed "studio apartment boutique hotel," Coconut Plaza offers a few perks that are rare in Waikiki: complimentary continental breakfast and the kind of personalized service that only a small hotel can offer. The recently renovated hotel has a tropical plantation feel, with big, airy rooms, terra-cotta tile, and lots of greenery. The island-style rooms have been recently redecorated in rattan and earth tones; all have a private lanai, ceramic tile bathroom, and daily maid service. The majority of the rooms have kitchenettes--with a mini-fridge, microwave, counter-top range, coffeemaker, and a complete set of cooking utensils--and most have views of the Ala Wai Canal and the mountains. Theres an outdoor pool, a sun deck, exercise equipment, and a tour desk on the property; Ala Wai Golf Course is just across the canal, and the beach is 4 blocks away.
