Atwater's whispers elegance from the moment you step off the elevator on the 30th floor. A rosy light suffuses the hall at sunset, and richly colored carpets on a blond hardwood floor and large, dramatic flower arrangements add splashes of color throughout the restaurant. In the middle of the dining room is a glass-enclosed wine room that would put many wine shops to shame. But the primary attractions here are the incredible view--far below unwind the Willamette River and Portland, off in the distance stands Mount Hood--and the Pacific Northwest cuisine. The combinations of regional ingredients are unexpected and delectable in such dishes as truffle-infused smoked beef tenderloin with a Pinot Noir sauce, or vanilla-scented Alaskan halibut with a mushroom ragout and watercress salad. The adjoining bar is a casually elegant place to have a cocktail and listen to live jazz.
Main dishes $18-$32, small plates $10-$14; fixed-price 4-course menu without wine $45, with wine $65.
Open: Mon-Sat 5:30-10pm, Sun 5-9:30pm.
Reservations highly recommended.
