Downtown (including the Skidmore Historic District & Chinatown)
Spanish/Portuguese
Price Category: Moderate
Excellent tapas (Spanish appetizers), such as spicy oysters and stuffed calamari, have made this Spanish restaurant and tapas bar enormously popular, but the entrees are also a delight. A roasted chicken with a raisin and nut sauce arrived beautifully arranged with wedges of potato and dollops of spinach, and the Catalan seafood stew is a good bet. Sunday night is paella night. There are good Spanish wines on the menu and service is professional, without the attitude you might expect at a trendy place such as this. For dessert the flan with mocha sauce is delectably rich. Thursday through Saturday nights from 10pm to 3am, Fernando's turns into a Latin dance club, which really turns up the heat (and the noise level).

Main courses $15.50-$19.50; tapas $2.50-6.75. Open: Tues-Sun 4:30-10pm. Reservations recommended. Credit Cards: AE, DC, DISC, MC, V.
