Café des Amis is a consistently reliable neighborhood French restaurant tucked into an out-of-the-way corner of Northwest Portland. The walls are so covered with ivy that it's easy to miss it. The Café has developed a loyal following over its many years for such well-prepared dishes as poussin (young chicken) with 40 cloves of garlic, tender duck with blackberry sauce, and an excellent beef fillet with port wine and garlic sauce. The dining room is small, quiet, and sedate (no hustle-hustle here) and frequented by an older, conservative crowd that has come for the dining experience, not to be part of a scene.
Main dishes $13.50-$25.50.
Open: Mon-Sat 5:30-10pm.
Reservations recommended.
Credit Cards: AE, MC, V.
