For cheap chic and tasty tapas, you cant beat Colosso. Inside, this little neighborhood hangout has gold-painted stucco walls and the music (usually rock) is loud. If the music is too much for you, you can sit at a table out on the sidewalk in summer. There are several excellent Spanish Rioja wines available by the glass (which here is usually a rustic stemless wine glass). The varied selection of tapas includes a tapenade sampler that goes great with the seemingly bottomless plate of crusty bread, tender skewered chicken with an unusually flavored honey-jalapeño sauce, grilled calamari with garlic spinach, and baked mussels. As far as we can tell, this is a dud-free menu. Hip waiters provide surprisingly attentive service.

Tapas $5-$8. Open: Daily 5pm-midnight or later. Reservations not accepted. Credit Cards: DISC, MC, V.
