Located on a historic block in a former Starbucks space (which the restaurant claims was the only Starbucks that ever went out of business), Caswell is proof that a good plate of pasta doesn't have to be expensive. This place is hip, with the attitude, music, and noise level to prove it. The pasta carbonara, with sautéed pancetta and a smoky prosciutto in garlic cream sauce, is strong flavored and appealing. For an appetizer, we love the bruschetta with olive tapenade or goat cheese with Mediterranean herbs. Pizzas and salads round out the menu. The bar, an important component of the restaurant, serves single malt Scotch and microbrewed beers. To sum up: The food is tasty, but the loud alternative rock music can be off-putting.

Main courses $5-$14.50. Open: Mon-Tues 11am-2pm and 5-10pm, Wed 11am-2pm and 5-11pm, Thurs-Sat 11am-2pm and 5pm-midnight. Reservations not necessary. Credit Cards: MC, V.
