If you're a foody, you're probably already familiar with celebrity chef Caprial Pence, who helped put the Northwest on the national restaurant map and has since gone on to write several cookbooks and host TV and radio food shows. That her eponymously named restaurant is a fairly casual place tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in Southeast Portland may come as a surprise. The starkly contemporary space was recently expanded, and though there are many more tables than there used to be, you should definitely make your reservation as soon as you know you'll be in town. The menu changes monthly and is limited to four or five main dishes and about twice as many appetizers. Entrees combine perfectly cooked meats and seafoods with vibrant sauces such as onion compote or coriander-yogurt sauce. Pork loin is always a good bet here, as are the seasonal seafood dishes. Desserts are usually rich without being overly sweet. There's also a superb selection of wines sold for only $3 over retail price. There's a small wine bar, and wines are also available for takeout.

Main courses lunch $7.50-$9.75, dinner $18-$22. Open: Tues-Fri 11am-3pm and 5-9pm (Fri until 9:30), Sat 11:30am-3pm and 5-9:30pm. Reservations highly recommended. Credit Cards: MC, V.
