This traditional, diner-like restaurant has been a hit with downtown workers for decades, despite being slightly overpriced. Typical Chilean fare is served, such as empanadas, cazuela (a hearty chicken soup), and steak and fries, as well as surprisingly good fresh juices. There is a fixed-price lunch, which is typically gone by 3:30pm. The atmosphere is colorful, with a dated interior that serves as a great backdrop for the characters who come in to eat, gossip, and smoke, in no particular order. Although there are two Bar Nacionals (another at Paseo Huérfanos), go to the one on Bandera.
Main courses $7-$12; sandwiches $3-$4.Open: Mon-Sat 8am-11pm.Closed Sun.Credit Cards: DC, MC, V.
