CURRENCY CONVERTER

This local favorite is a hit for its cheap prices and its comida casera: simple, hearty dishes like your mother used to make -- if your mother were Chilean, that is. Virtually any kind of typical meal served in Chilean homes can be found here, including pastel de choclo (a ground beef and chicken casserole) and cazuela (chicken soup with vegetables). The atmosphere is very casual; in the evening the restaurant serves as a meeting place for writers, artists, and other local folk to share a bottle of wine and good conversation. There's additional seating outside on the sidewalk, and it's open late into the evening.

Main courses $3.50-$9; fixed lunch $5.Open: Mon-Sat noon-3am.Credit Cards: AE, DC, MC, V.
