The northern cousin of Bangkok's deluxe Dusit Thani is a first-rate city hotel. Furnishings are tasteful, with elements of Thai art and discreet luxury. During our stay over the New Year, the extremely busy staff was always helpful and courteous. Our quiet room overlooked the glittering lights of the city and was a good size, clean, and--though not new--impressively well maintained. Cotton bathrobes and slippers, a hairdryer, and personal safe are standard amenities. Dining/Diversions: The sometimes frenetic lobby has a comfortable bar. The pleasant coffee shop serves an elaborate breakfast buffet with delicious pastries (350B [$14] per person), and the Jasmine restaurant serves excellent dim sum at lunch. For get-away-from-it-all entertainment, check out the live bands in the Music Room.
Amenities: 24-hour room service, concierge, limousine service, baby-sitting (with notice), laundry service.Small swimming pool.
$2,100B-3,350B ($84-$134) double; from 10,500B ($420) suite. Extra bed 800B ($32).
190 rms, 8 suites .
