At the very western tip of Grand Bahama, about a 45-minute drive from the center of Freeport, this battered old restaurant and bar is housed in a two-structure building that is the island's oldest hotel. Since 1946 it has welcomed the likes of everyone from Ernest Hemingway to Martin Luther King, Jr. When other joints on the Island close, it is often still going strong. Conch, done in many lovely forms, is the specialty: The conch chowder and the fresh conch salad are the island's best. You can also order fried chicken and fish and chips, plus various seafood platters; just tell the cook how you like them cooked. And surely no one serves a better Bahama Mama!

Main courses $10-$29.Open: Daily 10am-10pm.Credit Cards: Not accepted.
