Active Pursuits: Tennis Frommer

Portland Parks and Recreation operates more than 120 tennis courts, both indoors and out, all over the city. Outdoor courts are generally free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Our personal favorites are those in Washington Park just behind the International Rose Test Garden. If you want to be certain of getting a particular court time, some of these courts can be reserved by contacting Portland Parks and Recreation at tel. 503/823-2525, ext. 6.

If the weather isn't cooperating, head for the Portland Tennis Center, 324 NE 12th Ave. (tel. 503/823-3189). They have indoor courts and charge about $5.75 to $7.75 per hour per person for singles matches and $3.75 to $5 per hour per person for doubles.
