CoBrA Museum of Modern Art
You'll have to head out to the frankly dull dormitory suburb of Amstelveen south of Amsterdam to find one of the most exciting new museums in the country. Exciting, that is, if you like the post-World War II art of the CoBrA group, who took their name from the initials of the original players' home cities: Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Folks like Asger Jorn, Karl Appel, and Lucebert weren't instantly popular in their day, and it's probably still stretching the term to so describe them today, but they undoubtedly changed the face of art. See how at this "splinter new," as the Dutch say, museum.

Sandbergplein 1-3, Amstelveen Phone: 020/547-5050 . Open: Tues-Sun 11am-5pm. Admission Dfl 6 adults, Dfl 3 children 16 and under. Tram: 5 to Binnenhof; light rail 51 to Beneluxbaan.
