Church of St. John the Baptist
You may have noticed a large gilded dome prominently set in the New Orleans skyline (especially as you drive on the elevated expressway). That's the Church of St. John the Baptist, built by the Irish in 1871. Its most noteworthy features (besides the exceptional exterior brickwork) are the beautiful stained-glass windows crafted by artists in Munich, and the Stations of the Cross and sacristy murals painted during and after World War II by Belgian artist Dom Gregory Dewit.
