Portland Art Museum
While this relatively small art museum has a respectable collection of European, Asian, and American art, the museum has in recent years been positioning itself as the Northwest stop for touring "Blockbuster" exhibits. New galleries open in 2000 with the staging of an exhibit of Russian treasures from the Stroganoff collection. In fact, from late August 1999 through February 2000, the museum opened several new galleries, including one for Native American art and another for works by Northwest artists. An outdoor sculpture garden is also being added. On Wednesday nights (except in summer), the Museum After Hours program presents live music. The adjacent Northwest Film Center is affiliated with the Art Museum and shows an eclectic mix of films.
