Attractions: The Three Major Houses of Government Frommer

Three of the most visited sights in Washington have always been the buildings housing the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the U.S. government. All three, the Capitol, the White House, and the Supreme Court, are stunning and offer fascinating lessons in American history and government. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, have resulted in restricted public access, but it is still possible to tour all three buildings.
