Antiques--Antiques lovers and collectors should not miss the Bío Bío Market, also referred to as the Franklin Market and located -- where else? -- between Bío Bío and Franklin streets, open Saturday and Sunday 9am to 7pm. Take the Metro to the Franklin station and walk up several blocks through a so-so selection of wares until you reach the antiques area. You'll find an even higher quality selection at Mapocho; the red warehouse near Parque de Los Reyes, at the corner of Brasil and Matucana streets, houses dozens of small shops; it's open Saturday and Sunday 9am to 8pm. I furnished my entire apartment with antiques bought here because the price is right. A superb spot in Providencia is at the corner of Calle Bucarest and Avenida Providencia, where dozens of galleries offer paintings, china, furniture, and nearly every knickknack imaginable. If you still haven't found what you want, keep in mind that every Saturday and Sunday -- and only in the morning -- Plazas Techadas at Calle Placer between San Diego and San Francisco opens its doors to antiques buyers. This sector was recently built to house antiques dealers who for 40 years sold their wares at the Bío Bío. This is not a particularly bad neighborhood, but keep an eye open. The plaza Mulatto Gil de Castro on Lastarría street occasionally has a small antiques fair on Saturday and Sunday from about 9am to 5pm.
