Dining: Downtown Frommer

There are a cluster of restaurants around the tiny plaza Mulatto Gil de Castro, really your best bet for evening dining if you are staying downtown and don't feel like going far. However, almost everything is closed on Sunday. In addition to restaurants listed here, at the plaza try La Pérgola de la Plaza (tel. 2/639-3604; open Mon-Sun 8am-4pm), a pretty cafe with a good fixed-price lunch menu, or "R" (tel. 2/664-9844; open Mon-Sat 12:30-4:30pm and 7:30pm-1:30am), a cozy spot for wine and conversation. For food to go, try Chez Henry on the Plaza de Armas (tel. 2/696-6612; open daily 9am-11pm). Parking is nearly impossible in this area, so walk or take a cab.
