At the southwest corner of the plaza you'll find Paseo Ahumada, which bisects Paseo Huérfanos a block away; both are lively pedestrian walkways lined with shops and restaurants. The streets can get frenzied during the lunch hour, but it's a fun spot to watch Santiaguinos go about their business. This is also where you'll find a few of the city's renowned cafes that serve "coffee with legs," meaning waitresses in skimpy ensembles serving ogling businessmen from behind a stand-up bar. Café Haiti (tel. 2/697-1810) and Café Caribe (tel. 2/639-5041) are two of the better-known cafes, and because both are fairly tame compared to the raunchier versions with darkened windows, these two cafes are patronized by women as well as men.
