If you still can't get enough of museums, take a taxi to the Parque Quinta Normal, located at 502 Matucana. This 39-hectare (96-acre) park was first used as an animal breeding site and acclimatization park for imported trees; today, it's home to lawns, a wide variety of non-native trees, and a lagoon with boats. It's also home to the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural (tel. 2/680-4600), open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5:30pm, Sunday from noon to 5:30pm; admission is 75¢ adults, 35¢ children under 18. The museum has a fairly interesting collection of stuffed animals and birds, mounted insects, plants, and anthropological exhibits. More worthwhile is the Artequín Museum at Av. Portales 3530 (tel. 2/681-8687), open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm; admission is $1.25 adults, 50¢ students. The museum is housed in a cast-iron building that was first used as the Chilean exhibition hall at the 1889 Parisian centenary of the French Revolution. The building was taken apart, shipped to Santiago, and reassembled here. The museum strives to introduce visitors to the art world through 120 reproductions of well-known works by artists from Picasso to Monet. Kids love the Museo de Ciencia y Tecnología (tel. 2/681-6022) for its interactive displays. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm; admission is $1 adults, 50¢ students. Last, there's the Museo Ferroviario (tel. 2/681-4627), with railway exhibits that include 14 steam engines and railway carriages. It's open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 5:30pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5:30pm; admission is $1 adults, 50¢ students.
