January 7, 2003
In Travelocitys Newsroom, we've been wondering how travelers truly feel about the state of the world as it relates to travel in 2003. We wanted to see where the traveling public is headed, and what they plan to do given the ever-confusing political climate. You may want to compare your plans to our 2003 forecast as highlighted below.
We contracted an outside polling company to conduct a survey asking 1,000 Americans where and how they plan to travel in the coming year. The results showed us that an overwhelming number of people (85 percent) plan to travel next year, and many will continue to do so regardless of heightened security alerts or war. In fact, of those who are planning to travel next year, many plan to venture farther than they did last year. Travelers reportedly expect to travel in greater numbers to Europe, Canada, and both Central and South America. Do you have your travel plans arranged yet?
We found that the most concentrated number of travelers would spend their vacation the following way:
1. With family
2. Beach vacations
3. Camping/outdoors/nature trips
4. Amusement/theme parks
5. Cultural experiences
6. Adventure vacation
7. Cruise
8. Architectural/historical sites
9. Fishing trips
10. Guided tours
What will you do on your vacation this year?
Our research also reported that the way people take time off is changing. More people are planning to take a combination of both short and long trips for next year. How will you spend your time off? Will you take a short getaway? Will you visit family and friends? Will you venture someplace new or exotic? Or, will you return to your favorite resort or destination?
